The Yokohama Bay Stars blasted five home runs on April 9 against Yakult, including three in the fourth inning (Shotaro Ide, Jose Lopez, and Shun Yamaguchi). The last time a team recorded three home run in one inning that included a pitcher was Yomiuri against Yokohama on July 20, 2003 (Koji Uehara, Roberto Petagine, and Kazuhiro Kiyohara).
Lopez also hit three home runs in three consecutive trips to the plate on April 9 (fourth inning, fifth inning, seventh inning). The last Yokohama player to hit three home runs in on game was Tony Blanco against Yakult on April 7, 2013. The last Yokohama player to hit home runs in three consecutive trips to the plate in the same game was Hitoshi Tamura against Hiroshima on July 17, 2004. The home runs also happened to be Lopez’s first, second, and third home runs of the season. Only one other player has hit their first three home runs of the season in consecutive trips to the plate in the same game: Tomio Tashiro on opening day in 1979.
Yamaguchi’s home run was the second of his career. His first came on July 1, 2014.
