The four main organizations that use Jingu Stadium (Yakult, Tokyo Big 6, Tohto, and the Tokyo High School Baseball Federation) and Meiji Jingu Gaien (stadium owners) met with the 2020 Tokyo Olympic/Paralympic Organizing Committee in Tokyo on April 26 and could not agree to the committee’s proposal to shut down the stadium for seven months.
The committee would like to use Jingu Stadium as a storage and multi-purpose facility. They are rumored to have offered Meiji Jingu Gaien twice the amount they usually receive in rental fees for use of the grounds between May and November 2020.
The four main organizations are against closing the stadium for seven months because it would mean rescheduling about 400 games. They are asking the committee to reconsider their proposal with a shorter time frame.
The two sides are scheduled to meet against in May.
