Hayato Sakamoto blasted his tenth home run of the season on May 29 against the Hanshin Tigers at Tokyo Dome. He has now hit at least ten home runs in eight consecutive seasons since 2009. He is the first shortstop in franchise history to record at least ten home runs in eight seasons. The previous record of seven was held by Tatsuro Hirooka and  Tomohiro Nioka.

Sakamoto’s home run on May 29 came off Randy Messenger. He has hit six home runs off Messenger over his career, more than any other pitcher. He has hit five home runs off Masanori Ishikawa, Yasuhiro Ogawa, and Kenta Maeda.
