May 13 against Yakult at Tokyo Dome. Down 2-1 in the bottom of the twelfth. Runners on first and second and two out. Sakamoto hit a come-from-behind walk-off double to left. Tomoyuki Sugano held on a to 1-0 lead until he allowed the game-tying run to score in the ninth inning. The Swallows then took a 2-1 lead in the twelfth on a fielder’s choice. Yakult was one out away from taking the game when Sakamoto recorded the ninth walk-off of his career, first since August 20, 2015.
Tadahito Iguchi, Lotte (First Time)
May 14 against Rakuten at QVC Marine Field. Tied at twelve in the bottom of the tenth inning. Runners on second and third and two out. Iguchi hit a walk-off single to left. The Marines took an early lead with a four run first inning, but quickly gave it away in the top of the second. The Eagles added two in the top of the third to take a 6-4 lead. They kept the lead and added six more runs. Lotte kept things close with runs of their own and managed to tie the game at twelve with a three run sixth. Iguchi recorded the eleventh walk-off of his career. At forty-one years of age, he also became the oldest player in franchise history to record a walk-off.
