Shintaro Fujinami took a batted ball off his right hand while pitching in the fourth inning against the Chiba Lotte Marines at QVC Marine.
A ball hit by Lotte’s Ikuhiro Kiyota struck Fujinami’s right hand. The ball bounced toward first and Mauro Gomez fielded and tagged Kiyota for the first out of the inning. The ace was removed from the game and was seen leaving the stadium in a taxi with a team trainer.
[UPDATE 6/10 @ 8:35am]
The ball hit Fujinami first near the area around the base of his right thumb, then his right chest, before rolling toward first base. Tomoaki Kanemoto later told reporters he removed the right-hander because there was some internal bleeding. He was taken to a hospital in Chiba for tests after leaving the game. The Tigers are taking a wait-and-see approach, but could still take him off the active roster today.
