Daisuke Matsuzaka played catch outdoors during practices at the Chikugo facilities earlier today. It was the first time he played catch outdoors since he felt discomfort in the fingertips on his right hand. He was able to throw the ball at a maximum distance of about eighty meters. He told reporters he may have been able to throw a further distance if conditions were better (there was some rain).
Matsuzaka also tossed a bullpen session. He threw twenty-four pitches to a standing catcher. Assuming no setbacks, he could be ready to pitch in rehab games as early as July, although August might be more realistic.
