Obihiro Nogyo High School beat Shihoro/Shintoku High School 24-2 on June 27 and set a new regional record for most runs in an inning with twenty in the first. They sent twenty-four batters to the plate and pounded out thirteen hits. One player, first baseman Takaaki Matsuura (松浦敬明), recorded three hits, including two-run home run and a two-run double, in the inning. He also ended up hitting for the cycle.
The scoreboard at Obihiro no Mori Baseball Stadium had to revert back to zero for the first inning because it was not designed to handle numbers greater than 19.
