Shohei Otani left his start against the Chiba Lotte Marines at Sapporo Dome with torn blister on his right middle finger (he left the game with runners on first and second and one out in the seventh inning). The condition of Otani’s blister is bad enough that it might force him to sit out the All-Star series.
[UPDATE 7/12 @ 6:54pm]
The NPB is discussing the possibility of allowing Otani to participate in the series as a hitter, despite making the roster as a pitcher. There are no specific rules about how pitchers are supposed to be used during the series, so the NPB may allow it.
Otani’s first priority is still to get himself ready to pitch. He might not be able to throw at full strength, but he might be able to get through an inning.
