Shingo Kawabata fouled a ball off his right foot during his at bat in the first inning against the Yokohama Bay Stars at Jingu Stadium today. He remained in the game until he was replaced on defense in the third.
Kawabata was examined at a hospital in Tokyo and diagnosed with a fracture in his right navicular bone. The foot will be immobilized for three to four weeks. He might be able to make it back to the active roster for the last ten to twenty games of the season.
[UPDATE 7/23 @ 5:24am]
The Swallows initially thought Kawabata might not be able to return to the active roster until some time after August, but after a re-evaluation at a hospital in Tokyo on July 21, they learned he might be able to make it back in August.
