Central League


Kazuto Taguchi, Yomiuri (First Time)
4 G, 3-0, 23.2 IP, 1.14 ERA, 19 SO, 3 ER

Taguchi recorded his first MVP of the month. He started four games in July. He led the league in wins (tied) and ERA and did not allow more than a run in each of his four starts. He is the first left-handed Yomiuri pitcher to win the award since Toshiya Sugiuchi in March/April 2013.


Yoshitomo Tsutsugo, Yokohama (Second Time)
24 G, .249 AVG, 36 H, 16 HR, 31 RBI

Tsutsugo picked up his second MVP of the Month award, first since May 2015. He led the league in home runs and RBI. His sixteen home runs tied an NPB record for Japanese players and he tied a Yokohama franchise record with thirty-one RBI. He set a new NPB record by recorded three consecutive games with two home runs.

Pacific League


Kohei Arihara, Nippon Ham (First Time)
4 G, 3-1, 30.2 IP, 1.47 ERA, 0 CG, 21 SO, 5 ER

Arihara pitched in four games in July and led the league in wins (tied). His ERA was good for third. He pitched eight shutout innings against Softbank on July 2 and Lotte on July 9 and seven shutout innings against Orix on July 22. He lost his start on July 29 against Softbank, but still played a big part in helping his team finished 17-4 in July.


Ryoichi Adachi, Orix (First Time)
22 G, .380 AVG, 30 H, 0 HR, 7 RBI, 0 SB

Adachi batted second in most of the games he played in July (twenty-one of twenty-two games) and recorded a hit in eighteen games. He led the league in batting average and hits and his on base percentage (.430) came in third. He recorded a go-ahead hit against Nippon Ham on July 12, a game-tying hit against Lotte on July 28, and a go-ahead double against Seibu on July 29.
