Ayumu Ishikawa is a afraid of cicadas (he used to catch them during the summer months when he was a kid, but has not been near them since he got older and moved out to the city).
On August 12, 2016, Ishikawa had a no-hitter through the first out in the sixth inning of a game against the Softbank Hawks at QVC Marine. A cicada made its way to the mound with the count at 2-2. Time was called and the home plate umpire removed the cicada. Immediately afterwards, Ishikawa gave up his first hit of the game. The cicada may not have led to the loss of the no-hitter, but it probably did cause a distraction.
Ishikawa will appear on the Chiba Coast Guard 118 poster for the third year in a row.
