[8/23/2016] Hanshin Tigers planning to talk to Takashi Toritani

Takashi Toritani is currently in the second year of a five-year deal believed to be worth about two billion yen. While his consecutive games streak remains intact, his struggles at the plate have forced him to the bench. The front office is concerned about the veteran and is planning to sit down with him to discuss his future: is his focus only on playing short, or would he be willing to play another position, like second or third.

The Tigers know Tomoaki Kanemoto has already spoken to Toritani directly, but they are also interested in finding out what the veteran is thinking.

A middle infielder with a .354 on-base percentage still has a lot of value. Toritani should be playing regularly, but probably at 2B, given that Fumiya Hojo looks like a future star.
