[8/25/2016] Eigoro Mogi’s inside-the-park home run

Eigoro Mogo recorded an inside-the-park three-run home run down 5-4 in the top of the ninth on Thursday night against the Softbank Hawks. Yuki Yanagita attempted a sliding catch on a fly ball to center, but the ball got by him and rolled all the way to the wall. The Eagles ended up winning the game, 7-5.

Mogi is the first rookie to hit an inside-the-park home runs since Tomochika Tsuboi (Hanshin) on July 4, 1998, and the first rookie in the Pacific League since Masayuki Shiomura (Kintetsu) on June 6, 1956. Only three other Rakuten players have hit inside-the-park home runs: Manabu Satake on September 27, 2005; Kensuke Uchimura on September 24, 2011; and Hiroaki Shimauchi on July 7, 2013.

Ironic, since Yanagita provided a good bit of offense for once, with a walk, single, double and homerun. The road from hero to goat is quite short.
