[8/26/2016] Drew Naylor pitches three innings in Ni-gun start

Drew Naylor (right shoulder) started a Ni-gun game against Softbank at Nagoya Dome today. He gave up two runs on four hits over three innings of work and struck out five. The two runs scored on a two-out, two-run homer by Barbaro Canizares in the first inning. He told reporters he had some difficulty settling down in the first inning, but was otherwise satisfied with the outing because he was able to throw all his pitches for strikes. He felt particularly good about his curveball.

Naylor will most likely pitch in one more Ni-gun game, possibly about eighty pitches during a three-game series against Orix that begins on September 2. If he is fine after that, he could return to the active roster in time for a two-game Yokohama series that begins on September 10.
