Shohei Otani was removed from the starting line-up against the Seibu Lions at the last minute because he was not feeling well. Otani was able to take batting practice as usual and was the designated hitter when line-up cards were exchanged after practices, but was replaced with Kensuke Kondo at the last minute.
The Nippon Ham Fighters told the media Otani’s condition was not fever-related and that it started on August 25. He returned to the team hotel before the start of the game.
[UPDATE 8/27 @ 12:01pm]
Hideki Kuriyama decided to give Otani the day off because he was having a hard time focusing during batting practice. Otani was examined at a hospital before he returned to the team hotel. He was having problems with his throat and nose.
