Nippon Ham’s Brandon Laird went 5-for-5 and blasted three home runs with seven RBI during Saturday’s game against the Orix Buffaloes at Hotto Motto Kobe.
Laird became the fourth player in the NPB to hit three home runs in one game this season (Jose Lopez, Ernesto Mejia, and Garrett Jones); the eleventh player (accomplished sixteen times) in franchise history to hit three home runs in one game, first since Sho Nakata on May 3, 2013; and the sixth foreign player (accomplished ten times) in franchise history to hit three home runs in one game, first since Fernando Seguignol on June 19, 2007.
Laird also set career highs in home runs (thirty-five in one season), RBI (seven in one game), and hits (five in one game). The last player in franchise history to record seven RBI in one game was Atsunori Inaba on April 11, 2012.
