[9/6/2016] Seibu Lions, Ernesto Mejia reach agreement on three-year deal

The Seibu Lions announced today that they signed Ernesto Mejia to a three-year extension. According a report by Sports Hochi, the two sides agreed to a deal worth an estimated 1.5 billion yen plus incentives.

The Lions released the following comment from Mejia:

I would first like to thank the Lions for giving me a chance to play in Japan and for believing in me. Nothing could make me happier.

I love the Lions and I am grateful to the fans, manager, coaches, staff, teammates, and anyone else connected to the organization for their support over the years.

I will continue to do my best. Thank you.

Sanspo is reporting that the contract is worth an estimated 500 million yen a year over three years and an estimated 1.8 billion yen in total including incentives. His salary this year is an estimated 290 million yen. The Lions once paid Alex Cabrera an estimated 600 million yen.
