[9/7/2016] Kazuto Taguchi notches tenth win of the season

Kazuto Taguchi picked up a win against the Hanshin Tigers at Koshien Stadium on September 7. The win was his tenth of the year, making him the first left-handed pitcher drafted out of high school in Yomiuri Giants’ history to pile up ten wins in one season.

Taguchi also became the first pitcher out of high school in franchise history to win ten games in one season within their first three years after turning pro since Masumi Kuwata won fifteen in his second year in 1987 and ten in his third year in 1988; and first left-handed pitcher out of high school since Kiyoshi Matsuda won twenty-three in his third year in 1951. Including Taguchi and Matsuda, only one other left-handed pitcher in franchise history has won ten or more games before the season they turned twenty-two: Hiroshi Nakao with twelve in 1939 and twenty-six in 1940.
