Chunichi Dragons representative Kazuo Nishiyama indicated to reporters on September 17 that the team was most likely going to allow General Manager Hiromitsu Ochiai to prepare the team for next year when he said that they were not going to interfere with any work currently being done on player evaluations and the draft.
The Dragons could re-assign Ochiai to another position as a way for him to take responsibility for the team’s performance during his time as general manager once his contract ends (end of January 2017). They are planning to make a decision on his status before the end of the year.

Meanwhile, owner Bungo Shirai told reporters on September 17 that a contract was a contract and that they were going to let the contract run its course without any changes. If anything was going to happen, it would be during contract negotiations. He also said he could not completely rule out Ochiai stepping down and that it all depended on how the general manager was feeling.
Shirai also denied rumors about him hinting at the possibility that he might not offer Ochiai an extension as a general manager (he also did not say he was).
