The media learned on September 18 that the Orix Buffaloes have already started talking to Yoshio Itoi about his future. He has reportedly told at least one team official that he was interested in winning a championship with the organization. The Buffaloes are not taking this as a guaranteed sign that he is going to stay, but now they know they have a chance.

The Buffaloes might offer him Chihiro Kaneko (four years, two billion yen) or Hiroyuki Nakajima (three years, 1.2 billion yen) kind of money. However, there are concerns about his age and health. There are also concerns about signing another player to a large multi-year deal.
