Norio Tanabe held a press conference at Seibu Prince Dome after tonight’s game against the Nippon Ham Fighters and officially announced that he was stepping down as manager of the team. He informed the team of his decision before the game. He is stepping down to take responsibility for the team’s performance (three consecutive fourth place or worse finishes).

The Lions announced on December 7 that Tanabe will join their front office as a Team Adviser, effective February 1, 2017. He will be responsible for helping the team grow by learning new baseball strategies and coaching methods overseas.
