[10/2/2016] Brandon Laird signs new two-year deal with Nippon Ham Fighters

The Nippon Ham Fighters announced today that they signed Brandon Laird to a two-year extension that begins in 2017. According to various media reports, the deal could be worth up to 600 million yen (including incentives).

The Fighters released this comment from Laird:

I signed a new contract with the Fighters and I am happy that I will again be a part of this team next year. I love this team so much I never even considered signing elsewhere. I am grateful to the coaches, my teammates, team officials, and fans, but most of all, Hideki Kuriyama.

It was during my first year. He believed in me and kept giving me chances to play. I will never forget that. I can’t even begin to express in words how grateful I am. I am what I am today because of him. I want to toss him into the air one more time this year so we will win the Nippon Series.

I also want to tell the fans how much I appreciate them. During good times and bad times, they always cheered for me. I get charged up whenever I see sushi merchandise or message boards. Please continue to cheer for me.
