2017 Orix Buffaloes Coaching Staff Rumors

Mitsunobu Takahashi could be offered a hitting coach job after the Buffaloes announced that they were not going to renew contracts for hitting coaches Yoshihiko Takahashi and Hirotoshi Kitagawa.

Takahashi has been working with the Buffaloes since January this year. He became more of a full-time hitting instructor/adviser partway through the season.

The Buffaloes are also thinking about promoting Ni-gun Hitting Coach Shinji Shimoyama to Ichi-gun hitting coach.

The Buffaloes could offer Yasuo Fujii a job as hitting coach. He is currently a hitting coach for the Softbank Hawks. He might be willing to join Orix’s coaching staff because his family lives in Kobe.

The Buffaloes are also planning to re-assign advance scout Mitsunobu Takahashi to hitting coach as well.

The Buffaloes are planning to make a number of changes to the coaching staff.

  • Nobuyuki Hoshino = from Ichi-gun pitching coach in charge of the bullpen to Ichi-gun pitching coach in charge of the dugout
  • Masafumi Hirai = from Ni-gun pitching coach to Ichi-gun pitching coach in charge of the bullpen
  • Hiroshi Kobayashi = from Ichi-gun pitching coach to Ni-gun pitching coach

The Buffaloes are planning to offer Keijiro Yumioka and Hironori Suguro jobs as coaches. An announcement could be made soon.

Yumioka will most likely be named chief Ikusei coach and Suguro Ni-gun infield/base coach.

Ichi-gun Outfield/Base Coach Manabu Satake will most likely be reassigned to Ni-gun chief general coach. Ni-gun Manager So Taguchi will also take on duties as a batting coach.

Issei Nakamura is set to become an outfield/base coach. Ni-gun Batting Coach Shinji Shimoyama will be reassigned to Ichi-gun batting coach.

Motoaki Hirano, trainer, will not be returning next year.
