Kazuhisa Makita met the Seibu Lions for salary negotiations on December 6. The thirty-two-year-old was offered two years, but opted for a one-year contract worth an estimated 100 million yen plus incentives. He said he appreciated the gesture, but wanted to keep himself motivated by going year to year. He denied it had anything to do with the domestic free agent option he is scheduled to earn next year.
[UPDATE 12/7 @ 12:45pm]
Makita might also be interested in the Majors. There is a chance he could ask to be posted next year.
