The media learned on January 5 that there is a chance the Seibu Lions might post Yusei Kikuchi after the 2018 season. Kikuchi informed the club that he wanted to play in the Majors at some point in the future during contract negotiations in 2015. The Lions agreed to consider the move if Kikuchi put together three solid seasons. He recorded a career-high twelve victories last year and would need to do well this year and next if he wants a shot at the Majors.
[UPDATE 1/13 @ 10:39pm]
Kikuchi told reporters on January 13 that he spoke to the Lions about his dreams of wanting to play in the Majors during contract negotiations last year. He said that it was a dream he had since he was a kid, that they did not discuss conditions, that he knew he was not yet at that level to go, and that it was just about wanting a chance to try.
