Louis Okoye participated in morning warm-ups and dashes on January 2, but did not stay for the rest of practices. He instead traveled to Tokyo for tests on his right ring finger. Okoye hurt the finger during practices on January 1. He is expected to return to Okinawa on January 3. The Rakuten Eagles will most likely reassign him to Ni-gun spring camp.
[UDPATE 2/3 @ 11:11pm]
The Eagles announced today that Okoye was diagnosed with a ligament injury near the base of his right ring finger. He will have surgery to treat the ligament on January 9 and will most likely require two to three months for a full recovery.
Okoye may have suffered the injury to his right ring finger because he was overcompensating for another injury (he hurt his right middle finger last year).
