Taishi Ota hurt his left side during tonight’s game against the Yomiuri Giants at Sapporo Dome. Ota suffered the injury when he grounded out to second in the eighth inning as a pinch-hitter. He will be taken to a hospital for tests on March 6. He will be sent down to Ni-gun to recover.
Ota had been feeling some discomfort in his left side since spring camp and was being careful not to aggravate it.

Ota was examined at a hospital in Sapporo today. An MRI revealed a contusion on his left abdominal oblique muscle. He will probably need about four weeks for a full recovery.

Ota resumed light workouts at the Kamagaya facilities on March 10.

Ota is set to join regular practices on April 15. Assuming no setbacks, he might be ready to play in a Ni-gun rehab game some time before the end of the month.

Ota is slated to play in his first Ni-gun a rehab game on April 20 against Yakult at Toda.
