Masataka Yoshida missed today’s game against the Hiroshima Carp because of problems with his lower back. He started feeling discomfort in the area during pre-game batting practice. He is considered day-to-day.

Yoshida visited a hospital in Kobe on March 23 and was diagnosed with acute muscular lower back pain. He will remain with the Ichi-gun team for the time being.

Yoshida started taking outdoor batting practice again on May 3. Junichi Fukura would like to see him return to the active roster before the start of Inter-league play. That remains a possibility if there are no setbacks.

Yoshida started taking outdoor batting practice on May 2, participated in Ni-gun pre-game practices on May 5, played in a batting practice scrimmage on May 7, and added base-running exercises to his workouts today (May 9). He is set to begin a Ni-gun rehab assignment on May 10. If there are no issues, he could return to the active roster as early as May 12.

Yoshida got the start in left and batted second against Ni-gun Hiroshima today. He homered in his first at bat in the first inning.
