Motohiro Shima left after he took a blow to the back of the head during tonight’s game against the Softbank Hawks at kobo Stadium.
With runners on first and second and no out in the sixth inning, Takahiro Norimoto got Alfredo Despaigne to swing at a fork ball in the dirt. Shima kept the ball in front of him and was moving toward the ball when Despaigne’s back swing clipped him in the back of the head.
Shima was carried off the field on a stretcher and taken to a hospital for tests.
[UPDATE 4/5 @ 1:03am]
Shima was examined at a hospital in Sendai and diagnosed with a bruise on the left side of his neck. The Eagles are planning to take a wait-and-see approach.

[UPDATE 4/5 @ 6:34pm]
Shima participated in early practices today, then skipped pre-game batting practice for another evaluation at a hospital. He was apparently given the green light because he made the starting line-up at catcher and batted ninth.
