McGehee made a friendly bet with batting practice pitcher Hideki Asai. If he can hit thirty or more home runs, Asai has to shave his head. He if can not hit thirty or more home runs, he will grow out his hair.

May 28, 2017 vs Hiroshima at Tokyo Dome – McGehee became the Yomiuri Giants’ eighty-seventh clean-up hitter in franchise history.

August 30, 2017 vs Hiroshima at Tokyo Dome – McGehee notched his fortieth double of the year and tied the Yomiuri Giants franchise record set by Wally Yonamine in 1954. The NPB record of fifty-two was set by Yoshitomo Tani in 2001.

September 2, 2017 vs Yokohama at Yokohama Stadium – McGehee set a new single-season franchise record for doubles with his forty-first double of the year. The hit came in the fourth inning off Kenta Ishida.

September 27, 2017 @ 9:52pm vs Chunichi at Tokyo Dome – McGehee notched his forty-seventh double of the year and tied the Central League record Kosuke Fukudome set in 2006. The NPB record of fifty-two was set by Yoshitomo Tani in 2001.

October 3, 2017 @ 10:45pm vs Yakult at Jingu Stadium – McGehee recorded his forty-eighth of the season and set a new Central League single-season record for doubles. The double came in the seventh inning off Kenichi Matsuoka.

The NPB record of fifty-two was set by Yoshitomo Tani in 2001. Kazuya Fukuura is in second with fifty (2003). McGehee is tied for third with Phil Clark (1998).
