Hiroaki Takaya fractured his right middle finger while attempting to catch a foul-tip during the seventh inning of tonight’s game against the Hanshin Tigers at YafuOku Dome.
Hanshin’s Shunsuke Fujikawa hit a foul-tip during his at bat in the seventh inning. Takaya dropped his glove hand down to block a possible ball in the dirt and brought his right hand over the top. The foul-tip struck his right middle finger and broke the fingernail. He received treatment and remained in the game, but was replaced on defense in the ninth inning.
After the game, Takaya was taken to a hospital in Fukuoka for tests. He was diagnosed with a fracture in the distal phalanx. The Softbank Hawks will wait to see how he is feeling tomorrow before deciding what steps to take next.
