July 9 vs Yokohama at Yokohama – Araki entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the sixth inning and hit a two-run home run. It was his first home run since July 8, 2016 and the first pinch-hit home run of his career.
At forty years and nine months, Araki joined Takahiro Saeki (forty-one years and five months; October 15, 2011 vs Yomiuri), Michihiro Ogasawara (forty years and five months; April 9, 2014 vs Yakult), and Kazuhiro Wada (forty-three years and two months; August 21, 2015 vs Yakult) as the only Dragons over forty to hit a pinch-hit home run.
Araki is planning to use a shorter (0.5 inches shorter at thirty-three inches) and lighter (ten games lighter at 900 grams) bat in 2018, similar to what he used when he was younger.
