Ryo Akiyoshi will be taken off the active roster with discomfort in his right shoulder.
Akiyoshi pitched in tonight’s (July 30) game against the Hanshin Tigers and felt the discomfort in his shoulder after he threw four pitches to Fumihito Haraguchi with runners on first and second and two out in the ninth inning.

The Yakult Swallows announced today that Akiyoshi was diagnosed with a strain in his right subscapularis muscle (shoulder). He was taken off the active roster on June 1 and examined at a hospital (MRI) on the same day. He does not need surgery.

Akiyoshi pitched in his first rehab game at Ni-gun on August 20. He tossed a shutout inning and allowed two hits. He could pitch in at least two more Ni-gun rehab games this week. Assuming no problems, he could return to the active roster on August 29.

Akiyoshi returned to the active roster today. He pitched in three rehab games and did not allow a run in three innings of work. He faced a total fourteen batters, gave up three hits, walked one, hit one, and struck out two.
