Notes

  • Takahiro Norimoto (RAK) topped out at 158km/h — second pitch to Alex Guerrero in the second inning — immediately after he got a sign from Tomoyuki Sugano (YOM) to throw a fastball. Sugano was playing catch at the time. Source: Nikkan Sports 7/15/2017
  • Seiji Kobayashi (YOM) blasted a home run on the first pitch of his first All-Star plate appearance. He became the seventeenth player (first Yomiuri player) to hit a home run in their first All-Star plate appearance and just the fourth player to accomplish the feat on the first pitch they saw. The three other players to accomplished the feat on the first pitch they saw: Hajimu Tatsumi (1960 Game 3), Art Lopez (1968 Game 1), and Michiyo Arito (1970 Game 1). He is just the third Yomiuri catcher to hit a home run during an All-Star game. The other two: Kazuhiro Yamakura (1981 Game 3) and Shinnosuke Abe (2007 Game 2). • The Softbank Hawks swept the MVP Awards this year (Seiichi Uchikawa in Game 1 and Alfredo Despaigne in Game 2). This was the third time one team swept the MVP All-Star Awards (two-game series). The other two teams: Yakult in 1991 (Atsuya Furuta and Katsumi Hirosawa) and Yomiuri in 1995 (Hiromitsu Ochiai and Hideki Matsui). Despaigne became the first foreign position player to win an All-Star MVP in Softbank Hawks’ franchise history. Joe Stanka won the award as a pitcher in 1964 (Game 3). Despaigne joins Don Blasingame (1967 Game 2) as the only foreign position players in Softbank Hawks’ franchise history to record a modasho during an All-Star game. Source: Sponichi 7/16/2017

  • Most Valuable Player: Alfredo Despaigne (SOF)
  • Fighting Spirit: Shogo Akiyama (SEI), Daichi Suzuki (LOT), Seiji Kobayashi (YOM)
  • Special Sponsor Award (MyNavi, Nissan): Haruki Nishikawa (HAM)
