The Yomiuri Giants are interested in retaining the services of thirty-four-year-old Casey McGehee, thirty-year-old Arquimedes Caminero, twenty-nine-year-old Miles Mikolas, and thirty-three-year-old Scott Mathieson. McGehee is reportedly open to returning to the team in 2018. Caminero is expected to stay. Mikolas and Mathieson are question marks and could end up signing with an MLB team.

Mikolas, Caminero, and McGehee returned to their respective homes out of Narita Airport on October 4.

Mathieson left for the United States on October 11. Before leaving, he had a chance to speak to reporters. He is keeping the line of communication open with the Giants. He has also heard that MLB teams are interested in him. He is not sure what he wants to do yet, other than make the best decision for his family. He does also have an image of retiring in 2020 with the Olympics and potentially ends his career in Tokyo.
Yoshinobu Takahashi also got the chance to speak to directly to Mathieson a few days before his departure.
