The NPB announced today that a selection committee decided to give Tomoyuki Sugano a Sawamura Award for his performance this year. Yusei Kikuchi was also considered, but the committee went with Sugano because they unanimously felt he put together a better overall season.
|15 or more wins||17 W||16 W|
|150 or more strikeouts||171 SO||217 SO|
|10 or more complete games||6 CG||6 CG|
|2.50 or better ERA||1.59 ERA||1.97 ERA|
|200 or more innings pitched||187.1 IP||187.2 IP|
|25 or more games||25 G||26 G|
|.600 or better winning percentage||.773 WPCT||.727 WPCT|
The committee is planning to take quality starts into consideration next year, particularly since fewer pitchers have been able to reach ten complete games and 200 innings over the last few seasons.
