September 16 vs Hiroshima at Jingu Stadium – Murakami blasted a home run in his first career plate appearance (second inning, off Akitake Okada). He became the sixty-fourth rookie in NPB history to hit a home run in their first plate appearance, first since Yudai Yamamoto on August 19, 2018; and eighth rookie in Swallows history, first since Taishi Hirooka on September 29, 2016. He also became the seventh rookie out of high school to hit a home run in their first plate appearance, first since Seiya Hosokawa in 2017; and second rookie out of high school in Swallows history, first since Hirooka in 2016.
Murakami was drafted as a catcher, but the Yakult Swallows are planning to convert him to a third baseman.
Murakami ran the thirty-meter in 4.12 seconds during rookie workouts on January 19, 2018.
