The Softbank Hawks announced on February 1 that thirty-eight-year-old Ryota Igarashi will not attend spring camp in Miyazaki because of a possible herniated disc in his back.
Igarashi worked out in the United States this winter. He attended a team function in Fukuoka on January 30, but did not travel with the team to Miyazaki.
[UPDATE 2/5 @ 3:03pm]
Igarashi has decided not to go under the knife and will most likely require about two months for a full recovery. He may have pushed himself a little too hard during his workouts in Hawaii. He is currently resting.
