Yoshiyuki Ishihara became the 292nd player in NPB history to reach the 1,000-hit milestone when he recorded a single to left off Atsushi Nomi during a game against the Hanshin Tigers at Mazda Stadium on May 11. Ishihara also hit a two-run home run in the first inning and a single to center in the seventh.
Ishihara is the twenty-first Hiroshima Carp (also first Hiroshima Carp catcher) to record 1,000 hits. At thirty-eight years and eight months, he is the oldest player to make it to 1,000 hits. The previous record of thirty-eight years and three months was set by Hirotoshi Kitagawa in 2010.
