Ayumu Ishikawa had trouble throwing at full strength during his start against Softbank on July 24 (two runs, two innings). He continued to have problems during his next start against Nippon Ham on July 31 (ten runs, 0.2 innings). The Chiba Lotte Marines were concerned about fatigue and decided to skip him once in the rotation. The media recently learned that Ishikawa’s return will be delayed because he sprained his right ankle while running at Lotte Urawa Stadium on August 4. He might need about three weeks for a full recovery.
[UPDATE 8/26 @ 1:01pm]
Ishikawa resumed throwing in the bullpen on August 25. He threw thirty-five pitches and is scheduled for another session on August 26. Assuming no setbacks, he might be able to return to the active roster some time next month.
