Thirty-six-year-old Kei Igawa is not ready to retire and is planning to join the Hyogo Blue Sandars out of the Baseball First League. Igawa has been practicing with the team since April and is close to being ready to play.
Igawa reportedly received offers from a number of teams, but may have picked Hyogo because of his connections: manager Akihiro Yamasaki is former teammate Sachiya Yamasaki’s father and coach Toshiyuki Tsuzuki used to be a trainer in the Hanshin organization when he played for the Tigers.
