[5/31/2016] Shohei Otani could pitch and hit for himself up to three times during IL play

Shohei Otani could get to pitch and hit for himself in up to three games during Inter-league play.

  • June 5 against Yomiuri at Tokyo Dome (no designated hitter)
  • June 12 against Hanshin at Sapporo Dome
  • June 19 against Chunichi at Nagoya Dome (no designated hitter)

Otani will naturally get to bat for himself during games at Central League stadiums, but may also get another chance to bat for himself during a home game, assuming no one else needs the spot (like if a key player is unable to play defense, but can swing the bat).

[5/31/2016] Yoshinori Sato could make seventy-man roster during Inter-league play

The Yakult Swallows could add Yoshinori Sato (right shoulder) to their seventy-man roster during Inter-league play. He has pitched adequately (6 G, 1-1, 22.0 IP, 18 H, 12 BB, 18 SO, 9 R, 8 ERA, 3.27 ERA, 1.36 WHIP) and he has not had any problems with his shoulder. There are still things he is working on, like pitching on fewer days of rest and throwing more pitches per outing, but he could still give the team another option.

[UPDATE @ 10:06pm]

Yoshinori started a Ni-gun game against Lotte today and gave up four runs on seven hits over five plus innings of work. He faced twenty-six hitters, threw eighty-eight pitches, and topped out at 146km/h. He made the start on eight days of rest.

[5/31/2016] Hanshin Tigers looking for pitching help overseas

According to Sanspo, the Hanshin Tigers are currently checking the overseas market for bullpen help. They are looking at a number of players (possibly including twenty-nine-year-old former Carp Miguel Socolovich, thirty-two-year-old Edward Mujica, twenty-nine-year-old Al Alburquerque, and twenty-nine-year-old Pedro Beato) and are hoping to narrow their options down some time next month.

The Tigers currently have sixty-nine players on their seventy-man roster. They were hoping Marcos Mateo or Rafael Dolis would be able to win an everyday job in the bullpen, but both pitchers have struggled, due to a combination of performance issues and injuries.
