The Chunichi Dragons announced today that Naomichi Donoue’s wife gave birth to the couple’s second child, a boy weighing 2,908 grams, at a hospital in Toyoake, Aichi.

[6/14/2016] One possible location for Nippon Ham’s new stadium

The media learned on June 14 that Kitahiroshima, Hokkaido is a location that Nippon Ham is considering for their new stadium. Kitahiroshima Mayor Masami Ueno told the media that he was planning to begin discussions of what the city can do to attract the team during upcoming city meetings. The mayor is also planning to visit the Fighters on June 17 to let them know of their intentions.

Nippon Ham is said to be considering fifteen to twenty locations for their new stadium. The city of Kitahiroshima began discussing options when they found out in March that their proposed Kitahiroshima Sports Park site was included in the list.

[6/14/2016] Next starts for Nao Higashihama and Kenichi Nakata

Nao Higashihama and Kenichi Nakata will most likely swap starts because of match-ups and rest. Higashihama will be moved up a day to June 16 against Yakult at Jingu Stadium with Nakata pushed back a day to June 17 against Hanshin at Koshien Stadium.

[6/14/2016] Kazuhiro Hatakeyama out with left wrist injury

The Yakult Swallows took Kazuhiro Hatakeyama off the active roster on June 13 with pain in his left wrist. He hurt the wrist before the start of the season and aggravated it during a game against Lotte on June 11. He feels pain in his wrist when he catches baseballs and swings the bat.

[6/13/2016] JPBPA would like 2017 season to start on April 7

The Japan Professional Baseball Players Association (JPBPA) met with the NPB earlier today in Tokyo. They discussed a number of issues, including when to start the 2017 season.

The NPB is currently planning to start the 2017 season on March 31, however the JPBPA would like the league to consider the condition of players returning from the World Baseball Classic and push the start of the season back to April 7.

Players that participated in the 2013 World Baseball Classic had only about a week to prepare for the season. The JPBPA would like to give WBC players two weeks next year.

[6/13/2016] at home Hero Award for May

The at home Hero Award for May was given to Hayato Sakamoto for his performance against Yakult at Tokyo Dome on May 13. With the Giants down 2-1 and runners on first and second and two out in the twelfth inning, Sakamoto hit a double to left that plated both runners and gave his team a come-from-behind 3-2 walk-off victory.
