[4/28/2016] Kazuto Taguchi records first complete game

Kazuto Taguchi recorded the first complete game victory of his career on April 27 against Hanshin at Koshien Stadium.

At twenty years and seven months, he became the first Yomiuri pitcher under twenty-one to record a complete game victory since Ryosuke Miyaguni on May 1, 2012 (twenty years and zero months) and the first left-handed Yomiuri pitcher since Hisao Niura on June 23, 1971 (twenty years and one month).

Taguchi induced five double plays during the game: Shun Takayama in the third inning, Shintaro Yokota in the sixth, Yamato in the seventh, Fumiya Hojo in the eighth, and Yokota in the ninth. Only two other Yomiuri pitchers have induced five double plays in one game: Yoshiaki Ito (April 21, 1963) and Takshi Nishimoto (July 25, 1980).

Side note: The Tigers grounded into five double plays in one game for the seventh time in franchise history, first since May 22, 2011: Wei-Chu Lin, Matt Murton, Takahiro Arai, Kenji Jojima, and Craig Brazell. The five double plays in one game for the Tigers tied the franchise high (since 1950). The NPB record of six in one game was set by Hankyu in 1970, Yomiuri in 1995, and Yokohama in 1996.
