[6/10/2016] Tadahito Iguchi leaves after HBP

Tadahito Iguchi was hit by a pitch on his left arm during his at bat in the second inning against the Yakult Swallows at QVC Marine tonight. He was removed from the game on defense in the third inning and taken to a hospital in Chiba for tests. He was diagnosed with a bruise on his left forearm.

[6/10/2016] Yuta Iwasada leaves game with leg cramp

Yuta Iwasada may have tweaked his leg while pitching in the seventh inning against the Nippon Ham Fighters at Sapporo Dome tonight.  He appeared to wince after allowing a single to left to Kenji Yano with a runner on second and one out. Pitching coach Isao Koda immediately came out of the dugout and removed him from the game as a precaution.

Iwasada later told reporters that it was a cramp and that he was okay.

[6/10/2016] Takumi Kuriyama left out of starting line-up

Takumi Kuriyama was left out of the starting line-up against the Chunichi Dragons at Seibu Prince Dome on June 10 because his left arm was still swollen after an HBP during a Yomiuri Giants’ game on June 9.

[6/10/2016] Ryosuke Hirata left out of the starting line-up

Ryosuke Hirata was left out of the starting line-up today against Seibu at Seibu Prince Dome because of pain in his lower back. He kept his workouts light since today was a travel day.

[6/10/2016] Shintaro Fujinami, Fumihito Haraguchi diagnosed with bruises

Shintaro Fujinami and Fumihito Haraguchi were diagnosed with bruises, Fujinami with a bruise on his right thumb and Haraguchi a bruise on his left thumb. Both players will remain on the active roster for the time being and will be with the Ichi-gun team during their road trip to Sapporo.

Fujinami could be okay to make his next start, most likely on June 16 against Orix at Koshien Stadium, assuming no major changes to his condition.

Haraguchi was able to participate in pre-game practices today with his thumb taped up. The bruise did not appear to affect his hitting during batting practice.

[6/10/2016] Ernesto Mejia first to twenty home runs in either league

Ernesto Mejia smacked his twentieth home run of the season on June 9 during a game against the Yomiuri Giants at Seibu Prince Dome. He is the first player in either league to hit twenty home runs this season.

Mejia is the seventh player in franchise history to hit twenty home runs before anyone else in the league. The other six: Futoshi Nakanishi (1953-55), Koichi Tabuchi (1983), Koji Akiyama (1986), Orestes Destrade (1992), Alex Cabrera (2001), and Takeya Nakamura (2009, 2011). He is also the fifth foreign player in franchise history to hit at least twenty home runs in three or more consecutive seasons. The other four: Tony Roig (1965-1967), Terry Whitfield (1981-1983), Destrade (1989-1992), and Cabrera (2001-2007).

Mejia has now also hit a home run against every NPB team other than Seibu.

[6/10/2016] Rakuten Eagles to auction off third base bag

The Rakuten Eagles will be auctioning off the third base bag Louis Okoye slid into for his first career triple on June 7. The base will come with Okoye’s signature (directly on the base) and a certificate of authenticity. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Eagles’ Tohoku Smile Project.

[6/10/2016] Orix to take Chihiro Kaneko off the active roster

The Orix Buffaloes are planning to take Chihiro Kaneko off the active roster today after another bad start last night against the Chunichi Dragons at Kyocera Dome.

Kaneko has dropped three straight since picking up the 100th victory of his career on May 20. He has allowed fourteen runs (thirteen earned) on twenty-five hits and four home runs over 17.2 innings of work. The pitcher hinted that he was not pitching at 100 percent, but did not go into any specifics.

[UPDATE @ 4:45pm]

The Buffaloes took Kaneko off the active roster today with pain in his right shoulder. He had been dealing with some discomfort before he started having problems throwing at full strength during his last outing on June 9. He experienced similar problems last year in September and ended up missing about a month of the season (his condition is not as bad as this time around).
