[4/17/2016] Iwasada records third straight start with at least ten strikeouts

Yuta Iwasada made a start on April 16 against Chunichi and recorded his third straight start with at least ten strikeouts. He is the fifth Hanshin pitcher to strikeout ten or more in at least three games in one season.

  • Yutaka Enatsu – three consecutive games (twice) in 1968, four consecutive games in 1971
  • Kei Igawa – three consecutive games in 2006
  • Atsushi Nomi – five consecutive games in 2014
  • Shintaro Fujinami – three consecutive games in 2015

He is the fourth pitcher in NPB history (first in Central League history and first in NPB history as a left-handed pitcher) to accomplish the feat in his first three games of the season.

[4/17/2016] Chihiro Kaneko continues to struggle

Chihiro Kaneko has allowed fifteen runs (fourteen earned) in his last two starts. He had never allowed more than thirteen runs in two games in the past (thirteen in 2008 and thirteen in 2010). He is still looking for his first win after four starts. The last time he went four starts without a win was in 2013, between May and June. He went six starts without a win in 2008 and 2009, but never more than two games since the start of a season (2015). He had also never lost two starts in a row without at least one win.

Potential trivia: according to Sports Hochi, Kaneko had gone seventy-four consecutive starts since October 5, 2012 with Hikaru Ito behind the plate. Katsuki Yamazaki broke the streak on April 16.
