[4/21/2016] Injury update: Miles Mikolas

Miles Mikolas told reporters on April 20 that the pain in his right shoulder is more or less gone and that his next step will be tossing a bullpen session. He would like to make the active roster before the All-Star break.

Mikolas complained of shoulder tightness during spring camp on February 13. He returned to the United States in March for PRP therapy. He resumed playing catch on March 30 and is now throwing at a distance of about twenty meters.

[4/21/2016] Guillermo Moscoso to be with expecting wife

Guillermo Moscoso will leave for Miami, Florida to be with his expecting wife. He quickly left the stadium to prepare for his departure after his start against Hiroshima on April 20. He is scheduled to return on April 26.

Nelson Perez missed a Ni-gun game on April 19 because of discomfort in his right shoulder. He was sent back to Naruohama for rehab on April 20. He first started having problems with the shoulder on April 17.

[4/20/2016] Still no timeline on Shinnosuke Abe

The Yomiuri Giants still do not have a timeline on Shinnosuke Abe (right shoulder problems). Abe worked out at the indoor facilities at Giants Stadium on April 19. He last appeared in a game as a catcher on March 13 against Ni-gun Yakult. He can swing the bat, but still has difficulty throwing the ball.

[4/20/2016] Toshiki Sakurai resumes playing catch

Toshiki Sakurai (right elbow discomfort) started making slows and easy throws on April 16. He upgraded to playing catch on April 19. It was his first real game of catch since he started feeling discomfort in his right elbow on March 30. He threw the ball forty times at a distance of about twenty meters. He also threw the ball into a net thirty times.

[4/20/2016] Yoshihiro Ito tosses a bullpen session

Yoshihiro Ito had surgery on his right elbow last November. He tossed a bullpen session at Lotte Urawa on April 20. He threw thirty pitches to a squatting catcher. It was his first session with a squatting catcher since his surgery. He was happy with about five pitches. He could be ready to pitch in a rehab scrimmage/game next month.

[4/20/2016] Kohei Arihara could soon return to the active roster

Kohei Arihara (back strain) pitched in his first rehab game at Ni-gun on April 20. He got the start against the Futures and tossed two shutout innings. He could return to the active roster for his next start if there are no lingering problems with his back. His next start could either come against Rakuten (two-game series at Sapporo Dome beginning on April 26) or Lotte (three-game series at QVC Marine beginning on April 29).

Takuya Takahama was taken off the active roster on April 20. He complained of lower back pain during practices on April 19 and is currently getting rest at home. He will be examined at a hospital at a later date.

[4/20/2016] Takuya Asao tosses batting practice scrimmage

Takuya Asao (right shoulder inflammation) pitched in a batting practice scrimmage at Nagoya Stadium on April 20. It was his first session since the start of the regular season. He faced eight hitters, threw thirty pitches, allowed two-could be hits, walked one, and struck out one. He is hoping to take the next step by pitching in a rehab game at Ni-gun.

[4/20/2016] Brandon Laird ejected for “arguing” called third strike

Brandon Laird struck out looking against Hirotaka Koishi with a runner on second and one out in the eighth inning against Seibu at Sapporo Dome on April 20. He did not seem pleased with the call and kicked up some dirt and chalk when he swung at the batter’s box line near home plate. Tomoya Ishiyama, home plate umpire, saw the gesture as an insult/argument against his call and immediately ejected Laird.

The NPB gave Laird a stern warning and fined him 100,000 yen for his ejection on April 20.
