[4/14/2016] Injury Updates: Ryota Yoshimochi and Ryuta Konno

Ryota Yoshimochi started feeling discomfort in his right hamstring during a Ni-gun game against Yokohama on March 31. He has not played in any games since. He no longer feels pain and believes he is ready to return to the line-up.

Ryuta Konno hurt his right knee in July 2015 and later had surgery in October. He tossed a bullpen session to a catcher for the first time in about nine months on April 14.

[4/14/2016] Hiroyuki Nakajima leaves game after taking batted ball off left wrist

Hiroyuki Nakajima took a batted ball off the area near his left wrist while playing defense in the fourth inning against Nippon Ham at Kyocera Dome on April 14. He left the field for treatment and returned, but was later removed from the game as a precaution. He is considered day-to-day.

Nakajima was examined at a hospital in Osaka. He told reporters there was swelling, but most likely no abnormalities to the bones.

[4/15/2016] Kazuhiro Hatakeyama will continue rehabbing back at Ni-gun

Kazuhiro Hatakeyama (back tightness) resumed batting practice indoors on April 13. He took thirty-two swings and hit one over the fence during outdoor batting practice on April 14. The Swallows are planning to take Hatakeyama off the active roster because they want to avoid rushing him back to the line-up.

Shinichi Takeuchi will most likely take Hatakeyama’s spot on the active roster.

[4/14/2016] Hector Luna sets new CL record for errors by third baseman

Hector Luna committed four errors tonight against his former team the Chunichi Dragons:

  • failed to catch a pop fly in foul territory in the first inning
  • misplayed grounders to third in the third and fourth innings
  • made a bad throw to first in the sixth inning

Luna tied the Central League record for most errors in a game by a third baseman in the fourth inning and set a new record in the sixth.

The Pacific League record of four was set by Shoji Hozan in 1951.

Garrett Jones was not available for tonight’s game against Yakult at Jingu Stadium because he was not feeling well. He left the stadium and returned home before the start of the game.

[4/14/2016] Shun Takayama extends hitting streak to ten games

Shun Takayama extended his hitting streak to ten games during a game against Yokohama earlier tonight. He joined Tomochika Tsuboi (ten in 1998) and Norihiro Akahoshi (twelve in 2001) as the only Hanshin rookies to record hits in ten or more consecutive games.

[4/14/2016] Kosuke Fukduome leaves game with possible leg injury

Kosuke Fukduome may have tweaked his left leg when he hit a single to left in the fourth inning against Yokohama at Koshien Stadium earlier tonight. He appeared to be concerned with his left hamstring and was ultimately replaced by a pinch-runner.

Fukudome will be with the team for its road series against Chunichi at Nagoya Dome that begins on April 15. He might miss one or two games with tightness in his hamstring.

[4/14/2016] Injury Updates: Takero Okajima and Toshiaki Imae

Takero Okajima left yesterday’s game against Lotte early because of discomfort in his lower back. He was examined at a hospital in Fukushima and diagnosed with intervertebral inflammation. He was taken off the active roster today. The Eagles will re-evaluate Okajima after two days of rest.

Toshiaki Imae took an HBP of his left arm against Lotte yesterday. He was examined at a hospital in Sendai after the game and diagnosed with a bruise. He did not make the starting line-up against Lotte today because of swelling in the area.

[4/14/2016] Kenshi Sugiya will have surgery on his right hand

The Fighters announced today that Kenshi Sugiya will have surgery to remove hamate bone fragments from his right hand on April 20. The organization will know more about how much time he will require for a full recovery after the procedure, but it could take six to eight weeks for a full recovery.

[4/14/2016] Daisuke Matsuzaka tosses a shutout inning at Ni-gun

Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched in a rehab game at Ni-gun against Hanshin at Naruohama on April 14. He entered the game in the seventh inning and did not allow a run over an inning of work. He threw fourteen pitches, gave up one hit, and topped out at 143km/h. It was his first outing an exhibition game against Seibu on March 16.
