Shinnosuke Abe could play in his first rehab game at Ni-gun on April 8. He will start at designated hitter and then move to catching later this month. He played catch at a distance of about sixty meters on April 6. He also made nine throws to second base.

[4/7/2016] Shun Yamaguchi set to return on April 8

Shun Yamaguchi (right ankle sprain) is scheduled to join the Ichi-gun team on April 8. He is slated to start a Yakult game at Yokohama on April 9.

Yamaguchi sprained his right ankle during a Ni-gun game against Lotte on March 12.

[4/7/2016] Kris Johnson is the White Ranger

I am not sure if Kris Johnson is a fan of the Power Rangers, but according to articles posted at Chugoku Shimbun and Daily Sports, he and his wife Carly started calling each other White Ranger (Kris) and Pink Ranger (Carly).

Also, Johnson’s intro music at Mazda Stadium is the theme song for the White Ranger and he started using a white-based glove during practices.

Seiya Suzuki was not feeling well after Tuesday’s game. The coaches gave him the day off today as a precaution and expect him back tomorrow.

[4/6/2016] Shohei Otani may have tweaked his leg while running the bases

Shohei Otani may have tweaked his right leg as he rounded second base in the sixth inning of a tonight’s game against Seibu. He was seen walking with a slight limp after he was thrown out at third base. He was replaced by a pinch-hitter in the ninth.

Otani was fine as he rounded second base in the sixth inning, but he slipped a little after the bag and was thrown out trying to get to third base. He lightly twisted both his ankles and was treated with ice immediately after the play. He was replaced by a pinch-hitter in the ninth inning as a precaution. Both he and Hideki Kuriyama are saying he is fine.

[4/6/2016] Yamaico Navarro could play in a Ni-gun game on April 12

Yamaico Navarro is slated to join the Ni-gun team on a full-time basis on April 9 and play in his first Ni-gun game on April 12. Navarro was caught traveling with live ammunition (unintentional) and was issued a 500,000 yen fine and a four-week suspension (effective the start of the regular season at Ichi-gun and Ni-gun). His Ichi-gun suspension is set to end on April 22.

[4/6/2016] Kazuya Fujita has a bruised left chest

Kazuya Fujita hurt his left chest when he came into contact with the runner from first base while fielding a grounder in the sixth inning of yesterday’s game against Orix. He was examined at a hospital in Osaka and diagnosed with bruise. He was not available to play today. The Eagles are not planning to take him off the active roster for the time being.

[4/6/2016] Kohei Arihara out with a back strain

The Nippon Ham Fighters announced today that Kohei Arihara was diagnosed with a back strain. He will require about ten days for a full recovery. He was taken off the active roster on April 6.

Arihara first started feeling pain in his back on the evening of April 5. He was examined at a hospital in Tokyo earlier today.
