2018 Seibu Lions Coaching Staff News

October 21 @ 16:48 – The Seibu Lions announced the following changes/additions to their staff:

  • Eiji Kiyokawa – Ni-gun pitching coach > Ikusei coach
  • Toshihiro Iwao – batting practice pitcher
  • Tatsuyuki Uemoto – bullpen catcher
  • Yuji Onizaki – Ikusei coach

[10/12/2017] Chiba Lotte Marines name Tadahito Iguchi their next manager

The Chiba Lotte Marines announced through their website earlier today that reached an agreement with their new manager, Tadahito Iguchi. The Marines are scheduled hold a press conference for Iguchi at a hotel in Chiba on October 14.

According to media reports, the two sides likely agreed to a three-year contract worth an estimated eighty million yen a year and the uniform number 6.

October 16 @ 17:23 – The Eagles are expected to bring back Nashida next year. According to people close to the situation, Nashida’s two-year contract includes a club option for a third year. The Eagles are planning to exercise the option after the end of the postseason.

[10/11/2017] Hideki Kuriyama agrees to one-year deal

The Nippon Ham Fighters announced today that they signed fifty-six-year-old Hideki Kuriyama to a new one-year deal for the 2018 season. Kuriyama has compiled a 437-403-21 record as manager of the Fighters over the last six seasons.

October 5 @ 23:38 – The Carp posted an official announcement at their website about the departures of the following two coaches:

October 5 @ 18:06 – The Hiroshima Carp announced today that forty-seven-year-old Takuro Ishii (hitting coach) and forty-nine-year-old Yusuke Kawada (outfield/base coach) will not be returning next year. The two coaches submitted letters of resignation to the Carp because they want to spend more time with their families in Tokyo. The team has accepted their resignations.

[10/5/2017] Junji Ogawa introduced as new Yakult Swallows manager

The Yakult Swallows held a press conference today and introduced sixty-year-old Junji Ogawa as their new manager. This will be Ogawa’s second tour of duty as manager of the Swallows. He was named interim manager during the 2010 season and took over as official manager in 2011. He stepped down after the 2014 season and remained in the organization and took on the role of senior director.

The two sides agreed to a two-year contract. Ogawa will wear the uniform number 80.  He will retain his title as senior director until the end of December.

  • Yoshinori Murata, hitting coach to advance scout

October 6 @ 17:04 – Giants General Manager Yoshitaka Katori has been sitting down with the coaching staff to discuss the past season. He met seven coaches, including Head Coach Shinichi Murata and Pitching Coach Masaki Saito, on October 5. Since Katori became GM after Inter-league play, the meeting may have also allowed him fill in any blanks he might have had from earlier in the year.

October 4 @ 14:59 – The Giants are planning to offer fifty-four-year-old Sadaaki Yoshimura a job as a coach. He has worked with the Giants in the past. He was an Ichi-gun hitting coach in 2002, Ni-gun manager between 2006 and 2008, and again Ichi-gun hitting coach from 2009 and 2011.

October 7 @ 23:42 – The media learned on October 6 that forty-nine-year-old Yukio Tanaka, Ni-gun manager, will be leaving the Fighters. He has spent about thirty years in the organization (player, coach, manager). Tanaka submitted his resignation because has had health issues this season and wanted time to rest and recovery.
