Asia Professional Baseball Championship 2017 Preliminary Details

Samurai Japan released a few more details about the Asia Professional Baseball Championship that will take place later this year in November.

Venue

  • Tokyo Dome

Schedule

  • November 16 (Thu) – Japan vs Korea
  • November 17 (Fri) – Korea vs Taiwan
  • November 18 (Sat) – Taiwan vs Japan
  • November 19 (Sun) – First place vs Second place

Note: Start times and home/away not yet set.

Prize

  • Champion – 20,000,000 yen
  • Runner-up – 5,000,000 yen

Base Rules

  • The designated hitter rule will be used for all games
  • The official WBSC baseball will be used
  • There will be no pitch limits
  • The games will be official WBSC games
  • Tie-break rules will be used if there is a tie after nine full innings
    • Beginning in the tenth inning: runners on first and second, no out
    • Preliminary Round games still tied after twelve innings will end in a tie
  • Starting pitchers will be announced the day before their starts
  • There will be no called games
  • Eligible players: born on or after January 1, 1993
    • Each team will have three over-age slots

Samurai Japan revealed details for a new tournament that will be played later this year in November.

  • Participants: Korea, Taiwan, Japan
  • Period: November 16 (Thu) – 19 (Sun)
  • Official Practice Date: November 15 (Wed)
  • Venue: Tokyo Dome
  • Games:
    • November 16 – A vs B
    • November 17 – B vs C
    • November 18 – C vs A
    • November 19 – First Place vs Second Place
  • Prize:
    • Championship team: 20 million yen
    • Runner-up: 5 million yen
  • Eligible Players: Players born on or after January 1, 1993, or players that joined a team within the last three years, plus three over-age brackets
  • Baseball: NPB baseball
  • Tie-Break Rule: Yes
  • Designated Hitter Rule: Yes
  • The next tournament is scheduled to take place four years later in 2021 (venue to be determined)
